Royal Visits

A Royal visit is a special and exciting occasion that takes very careful planning to ensure the day runs smoothly and is successful.

Each year, His Majesty The King and other members of the Royal Family carry out approximately 3000 engagements.

There are thousands of requests sent to the Royal Family each year to ask for a Royal visit, and each invitation is given careful consideration.

The Lord-Lieutenant has a role in encouraging individuals and organisations to request a royal visit and her office is always keen to hear of events and activities which may be suitable for a member of the Royal Family to attend.

A member of the public may send an invitation directly to the Household of the Royal Family member they wish to attend. However, it is more appropriate for the invitation to be sent from the Lord-Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear, if it is in within her County.

Therefore please contact the Tyne and Wear Lieutenancy Office when you are planning an event.

It is important that invitations are sent as early as possible, with a minimum of six months before the date of the intended Royal visit.

The Lieutenancy Office will be able to offer advice and guidance on the planning process, to ensure the visit is as success as it can be.

GARDEN PARTIES

The King hosts a number of garden parties each year, where approximately 8,000 guests from a range of backgrounds attend each event.

Each year the Lord-Lieutenant is invited by The Lord Chamberlain’s Office to make a small number of nominations. The guests are usually chosen because they have made an outstanding contribution to their organisation or within their community.

Invitations to garden parties are sent out by the Lord Chamberlain’s Office on behalf of His Majesty The King. All the arrangements are planned by the Lord Chamberlain’s Office.

More information about what happens at a garden party, who attends and what to wear is available on the Royal website.
